Whitlock Scores 41 to Pace Saddleback’s Victory Over Irvine Valley

MISSION VIEJO — Tes Whitlock scored a career-high 41 points to help Saddleback beat Irvine Valley, 108-94, in an Orange Empire Conference men’s basketball game Wednesday at Saddleback.
Whitlock, a sophomore guard from Loara High who played at Arizona State, was 17 of 28 from the field. He had 28 points in the second half.
Saddleback (16-6), the defending conference champion, completed the first round tied for first with Riverside. Each is 6-1. Saddleback’s loss was at Riverside.
The Tigers’ loss came at Fullerton. Saddleback starts the second round Friday by playing host to second-place Fullerton. The Gauchos beat the Hornets, 72-71.
Derrick Walsh added 19 and Josh Borella 18 for Saddleback, which led at the half, 54-42. Irvine Valley (16-9, 4-3) got within eight with about three minutes left, but Saddleback was able to pull away.
Antoine Jefferson had 14 points and 17 rebounds also for Saddleback.
Rashad Wilson had 24 points and Arturo Clemente added 17 for Irvine Valley.
