Coach: Paula Cervantes (11th year, 205-83-2).
1993: 19-10, 10-4 in the Garden Grove League; lost to finalist Los Alamitos, 3-2, in eight innings in the first round of the Division I playoffs.
Key returners: Andrea Carreira, Jr., first baseman; Wendi Griffin, Jr., shortstop; Jennifer Johnson, Sr., catcher; Mandy Mendoza, Sr., center fielder; Angela Sifuentes, So., third baseman; Amy Silva, So., second baseman; Duffy White, Sr., pitcher.
Key newcomers: Melissa Beck, So., utility; April Booth, So., right field; Gina Huizar, So., left fielder; Kathy Moore, Fr., 3B.
Outlook: The league title still goes through Kennedy, OC’s No. 1 team at regular season’s end, but Garden Grove has potential of dethroning the Fighting Irish. They’ll have to get over loss of leadoff batter Autumn Gwinner (.483, 23 runs); she transferred to Pacifica, which may be best team in league, but the Argos should be able to piece together enough of an offense for White (14-9, 0.63 ERA). The lineup features Griffin (two home runs, 19 RBIs, 14 runs), Mendoza (two HR, 14 runs) and White (two HR, 16 runs).
