For businesswomen: The American Woman’s Economic Development Corp. is expanding in Orange County. The organization, which has had a branch in Los Angeles for three years, offers classes both to established businesswomen and to prospective entrepreneurs.
A one-year, 24-session series titled “Managing Your Own Business” will begin March 17 in Irvine. The course includes classes on financing, record-keeping, taxes, insurance, marketing and personnel management. Cost of the course, which will take place every other Thursday night from 6:30 to 9:30, is $525.
“It is designed for women who have been in business for at least a year and who are grossing at least $50,000 annually,” said Mary Kay Toumajian, manager of counseling services for AWED.
“The classes give women an opportunity to sit down with other businesswomen and analyze their businesses. It also becomes a networking opportunity--someone with a printing company and someone with a marketing company, for instance, might find a match.”
Another class, “Starting Your Own Business,” will begin April 11, also in Irvine. Cost of the 10-session, four-month class is $240.
