HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS

Ventura Buena 50, Santa Ana Mater Dei 41--Center Michelle Giordano scored a game-high 18 points to lead Buena (24-2) to its second-consecutive Southern Section Division I-A championship in front of about 2,000 at Ventura College.

Buena opened the third quarter with a 9-2 run to take a 12-point lead. Mater Dei (24-4) could draw no closer than seven points after that.

Margaret Hollis led Mater Dei with 12 points.
