COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Okenwa (31) Carries Master’s Past Christian Heritage, 83-67

Emeka Okenwa had 31 points and 13 rebounds to lead The Master’s College to a 83-67 victory over Christian Heritage in a semifinal game of the NAIA Far West Region Independents men’s basketball tournament at Concordia University in Irvine on Friday.

Okenwa hit 12 of 15 shots from the field and added three steals for the Mustangs (27-4).

Doug Leaman scored 14 points and Andy Thompson added 10 points and 10 assists for Master’s, which will play Biola for the tournament championship Monday night.

BASEBALL

Point Loma Nazarene 3, The Master’s 1--Greg Eidson hit a two-run home run with one out in the seventh inning, lifting the Crusaders (9-4) in the nonconference game at San Diego. Scheduled for seven innings, it was the replacement for a game suspended by darkness last week.

Chris Beck (1-2) started for The Master’s (5-8-2) and pitched a complete game, striking out 13.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD

Moorpark 107, Ventura 39, Valley 35--Isaiah Mustafa won six events to power host Moorpark to an easy victory in the Western State Conference meet.

Mustafa, runner-up in the decathlon in last year’s state junior college championships, posted victories in the 100 (10.9 seconds), 200 (22.4) and 110-meter high hurdles on the track. He won the high jump (6 feet), long jump (22-6 1/2) and triple jump (40-5 1/2) in the field.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

Ventura 72, Moorpark 68, Valley 24--Kristen Kleinhaus and Josephina Sanchez each won two events to lead Ventura to victory in the Western State Conference meet at Moorpark.

Kleinhaus put the shot 35-8 3/4 and threw the discus 120-5 while Sanchez timed 5:03.3 in the 1,500 and 10:58.1 in the 3,000 meters for Ventura (5-0, 5-0).

SOFTBALL

Cal Lutheran 5-10, Whittier 0-0--The Regals outhit Whittier, 23-4, to pace Cal Lutheran (6-2, 6-0) to a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep.

In the second game, Tracy Little and Shani Smyth each went three for four and the Regels took advantage of seven Whittier errors in a game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
