Bids to Release BCCI Execs Rejected: A court in Abu Dhabi has rejected requests for the release of 13 former executives of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International. The 13 face criminal charges in the emirate connected with the bank’s 1991 closure. The court said it feared the executives would leave the country and adjourned the case until Saturday. The defendants face $10.3 billion in civil claims. Abu Dhabi authorities are holding the passports of the defendants, officials said. Ten have been held in the Abu Dhabi Police Club since the bank was shut down and another is free on bail. Two defendants, the bank’s founder Agha Hassan Abedi and Ziauddin Akbar, are being tried in their absence.
