Andy Gavel, the boys’ basketball coach at Paraclete High for the past 12 years, has been hired as athletic director at Crespi High.
Gavel says he will not coach Crespi’s basketball team next season but might serve as an assistant. Gavel replaces Paul Muff, who died suddenly in January. He was 46.
“It’s a good thing for me to get away from coaching for a year,” he said. “I feel apprehensive about the new situation, yet really excited.”
Softball
Valley College will reinstate its softball program next season after a five-year absence, Athletic Director Chuck Ferrero announced Monday.
Ferrero said the program was dropped “for a variety of reasons” after the 1989 season but that he has intended to bring it back since becoming athletic director four years ago.
No coach has been selected.
