Phebus, Ampuero Gain Tennis Final

Keri Phebus and Cecelia Ampuero of Newport Beach each won their semifinal matches Saturday, setting up an all-Orange County final today in the Toshiba Tennis Classic at the Rancho San Clemente Tennis and Fitness Club.

Ampuero, who is unseeded, easily defeated Lisa Alipaz of Anaheim, 6-3, 6-2. Phebus, who is seeded third, dominated her match against Rita Maria Pichardo of Cuba, 6-1, 6-1.

The winner of today’s final will earn a berth in the qualifying tournament for the main draw of the Toshiba Tennis Classic, which features Steffi Graf, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario and Conchita Martinez.
