World IN BRIEF : RUSSIA : Coast Guard Fires on Japan Fishing Boats

A Russian coast guard vessel opened fire on two Japanese boats fishing illegally off the South Kurile islands, wounding at least one crew member, a border guard official said. It was one of the most serious incidents in the 40-year dispute between Moscow and Tokyo over the four islands, which were seized by Soviet troops at the end of World War II.
