Little Saigon was built by Vietnamese American business people and merchants starting in the mid-1970s from vacant agricultural land and aging strip malls along Bolsa Avenue in Westminster.
Now the district is on its way to becoming a major tourist spot with more than 2,000 shops, restaurants, cafes, jewelry stores and offices. The business district stretches for 1 1/2 miles on Bolsa Avenue between Ward and Magnolia streets.
The area is considered the heart of the county’s 150,000-member Vietnamese community. City officials hope it will emerge as a trading gateway with Vietnam and Pacific Rim countries.

The Newport Central Library will offer a writing workshop by author Jennifer Marshall. The topic of Marshall’s talk is “How to Write a Book: Unlocking Your Creative Potential.”
The workshop is free to the public and begins at 7 p.m.
