PREP ROUNDUP : Murphy’s Eight Goals Pace Brea Victory Over Magnolia

Sixth-ranked Brea-Olinda scored nine goals in the second quarter and defeated host Magnolia, 18-5, in an Orange League water polo opener Tuesday.
Tad Murphy led the Wildcats (12-1, 1-0) with eight goals, including five in the decisive second quarter.
Brea, which is top-ranked in Division XI, shared the league championship with the Sentinels last season.
In nonleague water polo:
Cerritos 19, Cypress 10--Cypress (5-3) gave up eight third-quarter goals and lost at Cerritos. David Watkins had six goals for the Centurions.
In South Coast League girls’ tennis:
Dana Hills 12, Mater Dei 6--Fifth-ranked Dana Hills (6-3, 1-0) got key performances at No. 2 singles from Summer Tantee, who swept, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, and the No. 1 doubles team of Michele Johnson and Katie Tierney, who also swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-1.
In Sunset League girls’ tennis:
Huntington Beach 15, Fountain Valley 3--Melissa Dillard and Ashley Mawhorter swept their singles sets for Huntington Beach (5-3, 1-1).
In a Century League boys’ cross-country meet:
Villa Park 28, El Modena 29--Jeremy Mordock led the way for seventh-ranked Villa Park (3-1), finishing the 3.1-mile course at Irvine Park in 15 minutes 58 seconds. Sixth-ranked El Modena is also 3-1.
In a Century League girls’ cross-country meet:
El Modena 19, Villa Park 39--Leslie Burton, Jessica Dahlberg and Tara Whitfield finished in a three-way tie for first place to lead fourth-ranked El Modena (4-0) over Villa Park (2-2) at Irvine Park. The threesome finished the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes 42 seconds.
