PLACENTIA — Valencia quarterback Joe Secoda played a part in every point Thursday night, leading the Tigers to an 18-6 nonleague football victory over Sunny Hills at Valencia High School.
Secoda threw for one score, ran for another, kicked a field goal and an extra point and ran in a two-point conversion. Secoda completed 12 of 17 passes for 142 yards.
The Valencia defense dominated the Lancers (1-4) throughout the final three quarters. Sunny Hills quarterback Greg Garand completed 13 of 32 passes for 157 yards, but four of his passes were intercepted.
The Lancers got on the board first, on their second possession of the game. Garand hit Eric Hernandez for a 12-yard touchdown, capping an eight-play, 84-yard drive.
Trailing 6-0, the Tigers (3-1-1) scored on their second possession of the second quarter when Secoda ran in from two yards out. His kick gave the Tigers a 7-6 lead.
Secoda increased the Tigers’ lead just before halftime by making a 27-yard field goal.
The Tigers’ final score came with 2:13 left in the third quarter when Secoda hit Chris Roussin on a 14-yard score. Secoda then took the fumbled extra-point snap and ran in for the two-point conversion, giving the Tigers an 18-6 lead.
