HUNTINGTON BEACH — An 81-year-old Huntington Beach woman was killed late Saturday night and two other people were seriously injured when two cars collided at a local intersection, police said.
Ann Goldfein was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center, a spokesman for the Orange County coroner’s office said.
Goldfein was riding in a 1982 Mercedes Benz driven by Martha Baumel, 52, of Huntington Beach when it collided with a 1975 Chevy truck driven by David Zunig, 20, of Costa Mesa, said Lt. Jim Cutshaw of the Huntington Beach Police Department. Baumel and Zunig were hospitalized with major head and internal injuries, Cutshaw said.
Witnesses said the Mercedes Benz was “going at a high rate of speed” westbound on Bolsa Avenue at 11:50 p.m. when it entered the Springdale Street intersection and collided with the truck, Cutshaw said. The collision knocked both cars into a nearby field, Cutshaw said.
Zunig was taken to Huntington Beach Medical Center. His condition Sunday was not released.
Baumel’s condition also was not released Sunday night at UCI Medical Center.
