PREP EXTRA: SATURDAY FOOTBALL PULLOUT : Myers’ Three Touchdowns Key El Dorado Victory

PLACENTIA — David Myers ran for three first-quarter touchdowns and intercepted three passes as host El Dorado retained its playoff hopes with a 26-13 victory over Katella Friday at Valencia High.

El Dorado (4-4, 2-1) scored on its first three possessions of the game to lead, 19-0, at the end of the first quarter.

Myers, who ran for 79 yards in 16 carries, scored from eight yards on his first carry, completing the Golden Hawks’ 11-play, 86-yard opening drive.

On El Dorado’s next possession, Myers swept right and broke a tackle for a 37-yard touchdown. Mike Marzicola’s conversion pass attempt was batted down at the line of scrimmage, but the Golden Hawks led, 12-0.

Katella (0-8, 0-3) started on its 17-yard line after the kickoff, but Sal Viramontes’ pass on the first play was intercepted by Myers, who returned it 28 yards to Katella’s 11-yard line.

Two plays later, Myers ran four yards for his third touchdown of the quarter.

Myers actually had a hand in all first-half scoring.

Midway through the second quarter, Viramontes threw deep for Josh Welton, but the pass was under-thrown. Myers, trying for what would have given him four interceptions, tipped the ball into the end zone, where Welton easily caught it for a 41-yard touchdown.

Katella’s Willie Demyers ran for 50 yards in five carries to lead Katella, which remained winless in eight games.
