NATION IN BRIEF : GEORGIA : Bodies Washed Up in Flood Are Reburied

The unidentified remains of 97 people disinterred by floodwaters in July were reburied in Albany, Ga. The Flint River, swollen in July by more than two feet of rain in 24 hours from Tropical Storm Alberto, inundated two cemeteries. The cemeteries were heavily damaged, and 405 coffins popped out of the ground and floated downstream. Eventually 308 of the bodies were identified through various methods, but 97 people remained unknown.
