Jann Thorpe scored 15 points and had 12 rebounds to lead Newbury Park High to 55-29 victory over Ventura in the first round of the Buena tournament.
Kara McKeown had 10 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, while Julie Wastell added 10 points for the Panthers (5-0), ranked 10th in the state by Cal-Hi Sports.
The victory sets up a semifinal matchup tonight between Newbury Park and top-seeded Alemany.
