Hughes Aircraft to Send Computer Work Outside: The Los Angeles-based concern, looking to further cut costs, plans to hire an outside company to perform its data-processing tasks. The work is currently handled by 1,500 Hughes employees, most of them in Southern California, but it’s likely the vast majority of them will join whichever firm acquires the Hughes contract. Hughes, a unit of General Motors Corp., declined to say which companies are negotiating for the pact or what the contract’s potential terms are. But the trade publication Information Week said Computer Sciences Corp. of El Segundo is in final negotiations with Hughes. Computer Sciences declined to comment.
