Wildfire in Seattle Area Perils Homes

SEATTLE — A wildfire raged out of control Tuesday about 30 miles southeast of Seattle, threatening about 100 homes and sparking some evacuations, officials said.
More than 200 firefighters battled gusty winds of up to 50 m.p.h. in an effort to contain the fire, which grew to 185 acres. The cause of the blaze was not known.
The fire burned privately owned timberland and caused concern about two small residential subdivisions near Enumclaw, Wash.
Officials began distributing information to residents about the potential need for an evacuation, and some residents left voluntarily, said Vicki Christiansen of the state Department of Natural Resources.
