Splintered Five-Iron Injures Ogle

Defending champion Brett Ogle escaped serious injury Friday when struck under the left eye by a splintered golf club during the second round of the Hawaiian Open in Honolulu.
Ogle hit his second shot on the 13th hole into a grove of coconut trees. In trying to hit back onto the fairway, his five-iron struck a tree. The head of the club hooked around the tree and the club broke into three pieces.
He was treated and released from a local clinic after suffering a bruise around his left eye and a gash on his left arm.
Ogle’s injury overshadowed the seven-under 65 shot by Duffy Waldorf, whose two-round total of 133 is three strokes better than John Morse, who also shot a 65, Clark Dennis and Dan Pohl.
