Sonora’s Grain Commits to USC

Sonora offensive lineman Jason Grain, a Times first-team all-county selection, has orally committed to USC, Sonora Coach Mark Takkinen said Monday.
Santa Ana Valley’s Dwayne Cherrington (Colorado) and Esperanza’s Dahrin Footman (Nevada Las Vegas) also made oral commitments this weekend.
Grain, a 6-foot-5, 270-pound senior, also considered UCLA, Arizona State, Oregon and Oregon State.
Cherrington, the Century League offensive player of the year, is a 5-10, 185-pound running back who rushed for 1,115 yards in nine games this season and scored 14 touchdowns.
Footman, a Times first-team all-county running back, rushed for 1,852 yards and scored 24 touchdowns. Footman, who is 5-8, 185 pounds, said he also considered Fresno State.
