O.C. Dancer Follows Dream to Its Corps

When he first saw Les Ballet Trockadero de Monte Carlo in 1988, James Roy of Garden Grove didn’t imagine he’d be dancing with the company one day.
But Roy, who studied dance at Cal State Fullerton, says he “was talking recently with a friend about following your dreams and having goals and stuff, and I mentioned my dancing, and she said, ‘Go for it.’ ”
Roy took the advice, auditioned earlier this month and joined the all-male troupe, which parodies classical ballets. He’ll appear tonight at Plummer Auditorium in the “Swan Lake” corps de ballet.
“The fact that the company is so different has great appeal to me,” said the 27-year-old. “I like things that tend to head toward the extreme, one way or the other. Middle of the road to me is boring.”
