RIVERSIDE — A 17-year-old boy who spent two weeks as a house guest of a Rancho Cucamonga family before being asked to leave was being held for questioning in the knife slayings of two members of the family, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.
The bodies of Linda Code, 51, and her daughter, Melodie, 17, were found Friday after Timothy Code, who was out of town, asked co-workers to check on his family, said homicide Sgt. Pete Ortiz.
The suspect had gone to a local hospital for treatment of a serious hand injury when he was arrested by authorities on suspicion of an unrelated offense, and then linked to the double homicide, Ortiz said. The teen-ager, who was not identified because he is a minor, was being held at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey.
