Carly Funicello
SCHOOL: Alemany
SPORT: Basketball
YEAR: Junior
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Funicello was a Times’ All-Valley player as a sophomore who continues to improve. The 6-foot-4 center is averaging 17 points and eight rebounds for the Indians, who are ranked fourth in Southern Section Division II. Funicello is a primary reason the Indians are unbeaten in Mission League play. She earned most valuable player honors in the Buena tournament after making a game-winning shot in overtime of the championship game.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Funicello scored 52 points in three victories last week. She scored 23 points against league rival Louisville and 11 against second-place Notre Dame. On Friday, she scored 18 and blocked seven shots against Bishop Montgomery in a nonleague game at the Sports Arena. “Her goal is to dominate and be a factor,” Alemany Coach Melissa Hearlihy said. “Last week, she did.”
