Schillo’s Actions, Talk Out of Sync

I have always believed that you should look at what a person does rather than what they say. On Jan. 4, The Times reported newly elected Supervisor Frank Schillo said: “We must take a hard, cold look at the county budget. If we all agree that no new taxes are the order of the day, then we cannot continue spending as we have before.”
Then, not four days later, The Times reported that Supervisor Schillo announced he is close to leasing an office that will cost $1,000 more a month than that of his predecessor.
Congratulations, Mr. Schillo, you have succeeded in not spending as we have before, you have exceeded that amount--thereby costing the taxpayers of Ventura County an additional $12,000 per year for your office space. If this is your idea of a “hard, cold look” at the county budget, I’m afraid the taxpayers are in for some big trouble.
