The family of a 76-year-old woman found beaten to death last March 5 in her Corona del Mar home has offered a $50,000 reward for information regarding her death, police said Tuesday.
The reward is one of the largest offered privately for a killing in Orange County history.
Frances M. Van Uden was found with fatal head injuries in her Keel Drive home after worried neighbors called police, Newport Beach Sgt. Andy Gonis said. Neighbors said Van Uden, who was involved in various community activities, had not been seen for several days.
Police found a rear sliding door unlocked and Van Uden’s body slumped against a couch. Officers canvassed the neighborhood but made no arrests.
The reward is for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for Van Uden’s death, Gonis said. Anyone with information regarding the crime is asked to call (800) 550-NBPD.
