Honoring his sportsmanship and honesty, the Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley has awarded its 1994 Sir Thomas J. Lipton Sportsmanship Award to an 11-year-old Simi Valley boy.
Michael Sandavol, a sixth-grader at Simi Valley’s Big Springs Elementary School, took home a certificate, trophy and football, said Paula Mackelburg, program director for the Boys & Girls Club.
Staff members at the club chose Michael after considering qualities such as sportsmanship, effort, encouragement of others and being a team player, Mackelburg said.
Eight-year-old Laura Fleisch, a third-grader at Katherine Elementary in Simi Valley, was runner-up for the award.
