REGION : New Office to Stress Cancer Awareness
- Share via
Health concerns raised by Latino community leaders have prompted the American Cancer Society to open a branch office in Huntington Park to serve Southeast-area residents.
Slated to open by the end of the month, the Southeast chapter office will provide cancer prevention education and awareness services. The chapter will also provide practical help, information and emotional support to cancer victims and their families.
Educational programs will focus on informing residents about the risks of tobacco, particularly to teen-agers and pregnant women. An emphasis will be placed on preventing breast and prostate cancers, which have high occurrence rates among Latinos.
