Laura Gonsalves put a missed shot back in the basket with 1:24 to play in overtime to give No. 12 Washington a lead it kept in a 57-54 victory over UCLA at the Wooden Center on Friday night.
In a sloppily played Pacific 10 Conference game in which the two teams combined for 60 turnovers and shot below 40%, the Bruins (7-12, 2-8) stayed even through a 20-20 first half and 49-49 score at the end of regulation, then scored the first five points of the overtime period to lead, 54-49, with 3:41 to play.
Rhonda Smith and Gonsalves scored 12 points each to lead Washington (18-5, 8-2).
Nickey Hilbert’s 19 points led UCLA and her three-point basket with six seconds to play in regulation sent the game into overtime.
