Dr. Henry Foster Jr.

Dr. Henry Foster Jr. has a proven record of experience with the critical public health issues our country faces, as well as the support of mainstream medical groups, and the President has made a thoughtful choice with this nomination for surgeon general.
The recommendations of the American Medical Assn. and former Surgeon General Dr. Louis Sullivan are far more relevant to this confirmation process than the opinions of a few anti-choice groups who do not represent the beliefs of the vast majority of Americans. The leadership of the Republican Party should not allow a small number of organized and vocal extremists to thwart Foster’s confirmation.
Foster has the knowledge and expertise to deal with complex issues that jeopardize the health and welfare of millions of American children and families every day. He has confronted the devastating impacts of adolescent pregnancy with a comprehensive, realistic approach. He deserves the support of the Senate.

* Dr. Foster is a very disappointing choice. I may be old-fashioned, but I thought that obstetricians brought life into the world. I also thought that surgeon generals were supposed to promote the health, life and welfare of all Americans, not cut it short or kill it.
As someone who is pro-life, I must reluctantly say that we need to abort this nominee.

* President Clinton should pick our next surgeon general from the ranks of physicians at the Vatican or Mecca.
