BRIEFLY : Contest: Essays by Aspiring Journalists Sought
- Share via
High school seniors interested in pursuing a career in communications may submit an essay in the American Honda/Mario J. Machado Scholarship Competition.
In the contest, offered only to students from Los Angeles Unified School District, competitors will write an essay that addresses a national problem and at the same time points out one of the reasons the United States “retains its greatness.”
Ten winners will each be awarded with $1,000, to be used toward their college education. The contest, established four years ago by American Honda Motor Co. Inc. and named after broadcast journalist Mario Machado, seeks to motivate “the brightest, financially disadvantaged high school seniors who are interested in pursuing careers in communications.” Applications are available at LAUSD schools.
