THE CANYON REVISITED: A Rephotography of the Grand Canyon 1923/1991 by Donald L. Baars and Rex C. Bushman, rephotography by John R. Charlton (University of Utah Press: $19.95; 168 pp.). In 1923, Claude H. Birdseye of the U.S. Geologic Survey led an expedition to map possible dam sites in Marble and Grand canyons. Decades later, a second team retraced Birdseye’s route, taking photographs in the same places at the same times of day. Comparing the paired images enables the reader to see the changes that have occurred in the Canyon.
