The summer-like temperatures earlier this month meant a day
at the beach for many--but not an easy one for Huntington Beach lifeguards.
With unusually warm weather and heavy surf, the city’s lifeguards were exceptionally busy.
Nearly 150,000 people visited the city beaches during the first two weeks this month. Such large beach crowds are unusual during the winter.
During those two weeks, marine safety officers made seven rescues, 2,150 public contacts, gave 365 law enforcement warnings and assisted in 23 medical aid calls, according to city officials.
