Newhall hit all five of his first-quarter field-goal attempts, including a three-pointer at the conclusion of the first quarter, which put the Panthers in command early, 19-4.
Poly (22-2) never trailed and opened the third quarter with a 17-2 run, increasing its lead to 52-20.
Robert Reeder was an intimidating presence for the Panthers throughout, contributing 15 points, seven rebounds and five blocks.
Poly’s aggressive defense prevented the Flames (16-8) from penetrating inside, forcing them to commit costly turnovers and attempt poor shots. Despite having Orange County’s leading scorer in Josh Cameron, nothing went in easy for the Flames, as they connected on only 18 of 57 shots. Cameron finished with 19 points.
