Passenger Killed as Car Hits Tree

MISSION HILLS — A driver speeding around a rain-slick curve in Mission Hills lost control of his car and slammed into a tree early Sunday, killing his passenger and injuring himself, Los Angeles police said.

Eduardo Mauro of San Fernando died when Jose Martinez of San Fernando crashed his car on San Fernando Mission Road near Noble Avenue at about 1:45 a.m., Officer Norman Nagengast said.

Nagengast said police plan to seek vehicular manslaughter charges against Martinez, who was in stable condition Sunday at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills with injuries to his face, chest, right knee and right wrist.
