Long Beach police have identified a man shot to death while driving on the San Diego Freeway as 25-year-old Edward Weinmann.
Weinmann’s body was found about 7:20 p.m. Sunday after his gold 1985 Honda Accord crashed into a guard rail near the Signal Hill exit on the southbound side of the freeway. Police said he had been shot in the head through the driver’s-side window.
Detective Estella Martinez said officers are still seeking anyone who may have seen the shooting. Weinmann, a Long Beach resident, was alone in the car when he was shot.
“We have at this point absolutely nothing--no witnesses, nobody stopped, nobody knows why this happened,” she said. “We don’t know if (the bullet) came from another vehicle or came from someplace else.”
She described Weinmann’s car as a two-door hatchback with two patches of primer on the left side, and patches on the right side and hood.
