Moreno-Orozco Strikes Out 17 in 1-Hit Shutout

Bell’s John Moreno-Orozco pitched a one-hit shutout, striking out 17 batters as Bell shut out Locke, 19-0, in a Southeastern Conference game Tuesday at Locke.
Moreno-Orozco, who has 25 strikeouts in two games, gave up a bloop single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Third baseman Larry Gayton went 3 for 4 with six RBIs, including a bases-clearing double in the fifth inning to extend Bell’s lead to 13-0.
Eagle shortstop Gus Valenzuela went 3 for 4 with three RBIs.
South Gate 2, Fremont 0--Andy Silva threw a two-hitter, striking out 14 batters to win his second game as South Gate won a Southeastern Conference game Thursday at Fremont.
Albert Melcher and Danny Mojarro each had two hits and drove in a run to lead the Rams, who are 6-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Carson 11, Washington 2--Shortstop David Goss had a double and a triple to lead the hitting attack, but the Generals’ pitching staff continued to struggle in a Southern Pacific Conference game Thursday at Washington.
South Gate 10, Jefferson 4--Steve Toriz went 3 for 4 with three RBIs as the Rams won a Southeastern Conference game Tuesday at Jefferson.
Lincoln 6, Eagle Rock 2--First baseman Jorge Erami went 2-for-3 with three RBIs as Lincoln won a Northern Conference game Tuesday at Eagle Rock.
Erami’s bases-clearing double in the bottom of the third inning gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
Hector Arroyo, who was also 2-for-3, had two RBIs for Lincoln.
Bell Gardens 7, Muir 5--Jose Munoz hit a two-run single to highlight a three-run sixth inning as the Lancers thwarted Muir’s comeback in a third-round game at the El Segundo tournament Monday.
Lancers pitcher Andres Torres threw a five-hitter, striking out six and walking two.
Aided by four walks and two errors, the Lancers exploded for three runs in the first inning.
