COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans, San Jose State Split Big West Softball Doubleheader

Cal State Fullerton scored six runs in the fourth inning and Gabby Guerrero pitched a complete game as the Titans won, 8-3, to earn a split in a Big West Conference softball doubleheader against San Jose State Friday at Cal State Fullerton.
Shannon Dolan’s one-out double to right field drove in Tracie Noggle from first base and started a six-run Titan outburst, capped by Rose Garces’ third home run of the season, a three-run shot to right field.
Guerrero gave up six hits, three runs and one walk to earn the victory for the No. 3 Titans (24-9, 5-3).
In the first game, San Jose State’s Pat Martinez homered in the fifth to break up a scoreless pitching duel between Corina Lilly and Fullerton’s Brandi Isgar (11-4). The Spartans (18-25, 8-6) added an unearned run later in the inning and Lilly held the Titans to five hits for the game to win, 2-0.
Martinez finished three for four with two doubles, a home run and three runs batted in.
The Titans face Pacific in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. today and host No. 1 Arizona on Sunday.
In other nonconference softball:
Chapman 7-10, Concordia (Minn.) 0-0--Jenny Martinez was six for seven in the doubleheader with three runs scored, to lead Chapman (28-4) in the sweep. In Game 1, Christy Giordizzi pitched five-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts to lead the Panthers. Head Coach Lisle Lloyd earned his 400th career victory in Game 1.
In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball:
UC Irvine 3, UC San Diego 1--Leland Quinn had 17 kills to lead UC Irvine in a 15-3, 15-5, 10-15, 15-4 victory. John Arata added 16 kills and Scott Clarey 15 for the Anteaters. Jason Hinchman had 46 assists.
UC San Diego (1-18, 0-16) was led by Tom Black with 25 kills and Tyson Kerr with 22. George You added 62 assists.
In nonconference men’s volleyball:
Long Beach State 3, USC 1--The 49ers lost the first game but rallied to win, 10-15, 15-8, 15-10, 15-11. Tom Hoff had 33 kills and nine blocks for Long Beach State (17-7).
Geoffrey Cryst added 26 kills and Steve Walker had 94 assists for the 49ers.
