An 81-year-old man in a wheelchair was struck and killed in Long Beach on Wednesday by an 18-wheeler.
Coroner’s investigators still were trying to identify the victim of the 11:35 a.m. accident at San Antonio Drive and Long Beach Boulevard, police said.
Kenneth Tolstoy, the big-rig driver, was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run driving, said Long Beach police Detective G. Wood.
After being hit, the man was dragged about 150 feet, then run over as the truck drove away.
“It seems that, as he was turning, the right rear of the trailer struck the victim, who somehow ended up under the wheels of the tractor-trailer,” Lt. Torben Beith said.
