FULLERTON — Mark Kotsay drove in three runs and earned his eighth save of the season as Cal State Fullerton edged Pepperdine, 6-5, in a nonconference game Wednesday night at Titan Field.
Kotsay broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth inning with a bases-loaded, two-run single. Brian Loyd, who also drove in three runs, hit a ground ball to short, scoring C.J. Ankrum from third. That proved to be the deciding run.
No. 1-ranked Fullerton (36-6) has won six consecutive games.
Ryan Christenson hit his fifth home run for Pepperdine (22-15-1) off winner Kimson Hollibaugh (2-0) to make it 6-4 in the fifth. The Waves added a run in the seventh on Dennis Konrady’s bases-loaded ground ball.
Loyd’s two-run triple keyed a three-run first inning against Greg Gregory. The Waves came back with two runs in the second off John Mitchell when Geraldo Gonzalez doubled in a run and scored on Jason Cohen’s single.
Jeff Gibbons (1-1) was the loser.
