SANTA MONICA : Oklahoma Drifter Charged With Lying to Police
- Share via
An Oklahoma drifter who attracted worldwide attention last weekend when he was questioned and cleared in connection with the Oklahoma City bombing was charged Tuesday with lying to police and three other misdemeanors.
Kyle Forney was cleared earlier of any connection with the April 19 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, an FBI spokesman said.
The charges against Forney, 30, could lead to a one-year jail sentence if he’s convicted, said Alicia Cortrite, chief deputy of the city attorney’s criminal division. Forney was in jail in lieu of $250 bail.
Forney was charged with giving a false name to police officers, giving the name of another person, driving without a license and displaying a license plate that didn’t belong to that vehicle, the prosecutor said.
Police arrested the unemployed Forney Friday after spotting an illegally parked 1979 Pontiac Trans Am with Oklahoma plates. Forney misidentified himself to officers and couldn’t produce a driver’s license.
