Chapman’s Guidorizzi Pitches a Shutout

Christy Guidorizzi pitched her second consecutive postseason shutout to help Chapman to a 3-0 victory over Buena Vista (Iowa) in the NCAA Division III softball regional playoffs Sunday in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Guidorizzi (23-4) struck out nine and walked one and Buena Vista left nine on base, including three in the first inning.
Guidorizzi beat Simpson (Iowa), 4-0, Friday.
Jenny Martinez had three hits, all bunt singles, and scored two runs for Chapman. Kathy Donovan singled with two outs in the first inning to drive in Martinez.
Chapman added two runs in the sixth. Martinez singled and scored when Jessamine Maiben doubled off the right-field fence. Maiben later scored on an error for Chapman (39-5).
Later Sunday, Buena Vista came back to beat Simpson, 3-2, in 13 innings. It will meet Chapman at 9 today in the regional final.
