Inter-Korean Joint Ventures Approved: The government gave the go-ahead for the first such venture since the nation was divided after World War II. The Unification Ministry said the Daewoo Group conglomerate and Kohap Inc., a trading company, have received approval to set up joint ventures in Communist North Korea. Under the approval, Daewoo will invest $5.12 million in establishing joint-venture plants with a North Korean company to produce shirts, blouses, jackets and bags in the port city of Nampo, a ministry statement said. Kohap will set up a joint venture to make toys and textiles, the statement said.
