An off-duty policeman died Friday evening at a local hospital after being shot during a robbery attempt at a San Dimas supermarket, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Detectives said the shooting occurred about 8:30 p.m inside the Vons market at 1160 Via Verde. According to Sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Dinsmoor, the officer exchanged gunfire with two armed robbers, wounding one in the shoulder and abdomen and the other in the buttocks.
Deputies investigating the shooting called local hospitals and discovered two wounded suspects at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina, Dinsmoor said. The pair was arrested there, along with the man who allegedly drove the getaway car.
