Pub Gets Extension to Finish Kitchen

MISSION VIEJO — One of the city’s few neighborhood bars was given an extra six months to complete a kitchen required by City Hall.
The Planning Commission this week agreed to give Duffer’s Irish Pub, 275571 Jeronimo Road, an additional grace period after seeing plans for the kitchen.
“They’re moving slowly but they are moving forward,” community development director Clint Sherrod said.
The commission made the kitchen a condition of operation about a year ago when pub owners sought to add dancing, billiards, darts and two video games to the business.
City planners had noted at the time that the bar was no longer serving food as it had when it opened 20 years ago in the Jeronimo Plaza shopping center. Land-use laws governing the shopping center prohibit bars but do allow businesses with a combination of bar and restaurant uses.
Commissioners told bar owners Jill Henslin and Glendia Ricketts that a combination restaurant and saloon would be permissible.
