Butch Goring Being Considered for Kings’ Vacant Coaching Job

Former King star Butch Goring is among several potential candidates the team is considering for its vacant coaching position, General Manager Sam McMaster said.
McMaster said he is planning about eight interviews--some next week in Los Angeles and the others during July’s draft in Edmonton.
“We definitely would consider talking to him,” he said of Goring.
New York Islander General Manager Don Maloney said that McMaster called him Tuesday morning to ask about Goring, who is the vice president and coach of the Islanders’ International Hockey League affiliate in Denver.
Goring helped lead the Grizzlies to the IHL’s Turner Cup championship this spring and coached the Boston Bruins for one-plus seasons in the mid-’80s. As a player, he spent 16 seasons in the NHL with the Kings, Islanders and Bruins. He was with the Kings starting from the fall of 1969 until March, 1980, when he was dealt to the Islanders.
His best season with the Kings was 1978-79, when he scored 36 goals and had 87 points.
