Turbulence Forces Jet to Land; 21 Hurt

CHICAGO — Severe turbulence shook an American Airlines jetliner over Green Bay, Wis., Monday night, flinging passengers from their seats and forcing an emergency landing. Up to 21 people were injured.
Lisa Howard, a spokeswoman for the Chicago Aviation Department, said that three of the 21 injured aboard Flight 58 from Los Angeles to New York were in serious condition. An American Airlines spokeswoman put the number of injured at 17.
Passengers said people were thrown against the ceiling.
The plane, carrying 117 people, landed at 8:40 p.m. at O’Hare International Airport.

“It dropped,” said passenger Art Navarro. “You had to think it was your last plane ride.”
