House Swap Hints

Regarding Christopher Reynolds’ “How to Feel at Home With a Long-Distance House Swap” (Travel Insider, June 4):
Beware of an unequal exchange of cars! Some years ago, an English couple left us a frightful wreck that chattered and shook so violently we were afraid to venture into London. We drove it only once for about five miles. In turn, the British couple put about 1,200 miles on our camper. Beware the ubiquitous cockroach! When we exchanged our home for a vacation bungalow on the Algarve in Portugal, the Australian owner and his servant took excellent care of our house. However, his beach property left something to be desired. Faithfully, at midnight, the lone bathtub sprang to life, swarming with countless cockroaches!
