Leach Advances to Semifinals at Hardcourt Championships

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Richard Leach of Laguna Beach defeated Gordon Smith, 7-5, 6-4, Friday to move into the men’s 55 singles semifinals at the USTA Men’s Hardcourt Championships at the Lindborg Racquet Club.
Leach will meet San Francisco’s Gil Howard today. Howard rallied to defeat Herman Ahlers of Dana Point, 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Also in the men’s 55 quarterfinals, Bob Duesler of Newport Beach lost to Larry Dodge, 6-4, 6-2.
Dodge will face Les Dodson, who beat Len Saputo, 7-5, 6-4.
The matches begin at 10 a.m.
In the men’s 50 singles quarterfinals, Terry Ehlers of San Clemente lost to Larry Rabineau, 7-5, 6-3.
