Ian & Sylvia, “Ian & Sylvia,” Vanguard ***. This is the 1962 debut by the Canadian duo of Ian Tyson and Sylvia Fricker whose winsome folk approach has been cited as an influence by everyone from Joni Mitchell to Neil Young. While their later collections would dip into more contemporary country and folk strains, this was a tradition-minded collection that seemed almost defiantly resistant to commercial pop sensibilities.
