The city of Ventura will show off its newly renovated downtown during a four-hour celebration Saturday that will feature concerts and an art show.
Starting at 6 p.m., residents will be able to stroll along newly renovated streets that feature widened sidewalks and recently planted queen palms and honey locust trees.
A large number of stores will display the work of local artists, and a jazz band will perform on the sidewalk in front of City Hall.
The city will hold a free raffle at 9 p.m. at the newly built California Plaza between the Holiday Inn and Pineapples restaurant.
Prizes will include artwork and gifts donated by downtown stores, said Andrea Windle, spokeswoman for the city.
The $3.6-million renovation of downtown Ventura was undertaken in an effort to increase tourism.
